Private Tour of the Watts Gallery
On offer is a tour of the brilliantly restored Watts Gallery, Compton, Nr Guildford, devoted to the work of the great Victorian artists George Frederic and Mary Watts. Having first opened its doors to the public in 1904, the Watts Gallery is a purpose-built art gallery with over one hundred paintings by George Frederic Watts on permanent display. The tour will also take in the Watts Cemetery Chapel, a unique building designed and built by Mary Seton Watts, and Limnerslease, built for Watts and his wife in 1890-91 and designed by Sir Ernest George, one of the leading arts and crafts architects of the time.
The tour will be given by Richard Ormond CBE, Chairman of the Trustees of Watts Gallery, who will give an exciting and extremely well-informed insight into the collection and the buildings in which it is housed. Richard is a former director of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich (1986-2000) and a former Westminster parent.
The tour is for a maximum of 12 people and must be taken before the end of 2013.
