Description

We are very pleased to offer the opportunity for a Drama Master Class with acclaimed OW actor Richard Franklin.   This Lot is for a 1 1/2 hour class for up to 25 pupils (of any age) where Richard will offer on the spot guidance and suggestions based on brief learned-pieces.  These can be monologues, duologues or even short scenes which the participants will have pre-prepared.

Following introductory star performances in Busby's plays playing characters of both sexes, the distinguished and much loved teacher/producer of the School plays, Stephen Lushington cast Richard as Mrs Candour in Sheridan's "School for Scandal".  The Elizabethan critic described Richard's portrayal as that of a 'husky voiced harpy' - a comment with reference to his breaking voice which cannot have gone unnoticed by Lushington who then gave him the dual roles in Julius Caesar of Portia in the first half and General Titinius in the second!  Professionally, Richard has stuck to the male roles, with the joyous exception of being an Ugly Sister in one of his many Pantomime appearances.

After RADA where he won the Jenny Laird Prize, Richard learnt his craft in Rep which included 2 years with the Birmingham Rep under Peter Dews the Bristol Old Vic under Val May and the Ipswich Theatre where he was also Associate Director.  As a Director Richard has worked a number of other theatres and has also directed Youth Theatre and Guest directed many times at the former Webber Douglas Academy.

West End performances include Corin in As You like It (Vaudeville Theatre), George (taking over from Michael Crawford - Prince of Wales Theatre) and Arthur Kipps in The Woman in Black (in Dubai and at the Fortune Theatre).

Richard is probably best known, however, for the TV role he created as Captain Mike Yates of UNIT in BBC TV's Dr Who with Jon Pertwee.  He has also played regular leading parts in Emmerdale Farm and Crossroads, and in 2011 played Prospero in a highly acclaimed fringe production of the Tempest.  Richard has written several plays one, THE CAGE on homelessness winning an Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Richard will be making personal appearances in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne at the end of the year and is a guest at the Dr Who Gallifrey Convention in Los Angeles in February 2014.

The Master Class will be arranged at mutual convenience and must be taken up before the end of 2013.
